Trauma Trust, is a non-profit organization governed by a board of directors and jointly supported by independent health care systems in the Tacoma, WA area. Tacoma Trauma is a state-designated Level II trauma service providing advanced acute care surgical services in Tacoma and comprehensive trauma care for the Washington State West Trauma Region and beyond.
We are a unique entity that bridges the Virginia Mason Franciscan Health and MultiCare Health System to provide exceptional trauma care in our region. Our mission is to provide expert comprehensive care in trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care.
We are strongly committed to educating future physicians, physician assistants, and our community. We provide a high-quality and comprehensive clinical and surgical rotation, enhancing students’ experience with a vast array of surgical and traumatic diagnoses.
Each year, Tacoma Trauma hosts a one-day multi-disciplinary Trauma Conference for pre-hospital personnel, providers, nurses and ancillary staff. The conference provides up-to-date clinical information on the management of injured adult and pediatric patients, encompassing the continuum of trauma care.
Injury Prevention is an important component of our trauma program. Prevention is a multi-prong educational effort, helping community members understand how and why injuries occur and using environmental approaches to reduce injuries. Our injury prevention efforts focus on:
- decreasing senior falls by addressing causal factors;
- reducing distracted and impaired driving by working to change the culture; and
- reducing prescription drug abuse by limiting access and availability.
