Stop the Bleed – WA!
Blood loss is the leading cause of preventable death in multiple casualty events, like mass shootings, terrorist attacks and earthquakes. Significant external bleeding can also result from everyday events such as a motorcycle crash, or industrial accident. Rapid control of bleeding at the scene of the event can be life-saving. That’s why we’re teaming up with Tacoma General, St. Joseph Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, the American College of Surgeons Washington State Committee on Trauma, and Tacoma Fire and Pierce County EMS to ensure that:
- Bystanders have skills and knowledge to provide immediate bleeding control to victims at the scene of an event.
- Bleeding control supplies are located in all public gathering locations next to or in Automated External Defibrillators (AED) boxes.
- Bleeding control education is incorporated into our schools and workplace.
- People know what to do in an active shooter situation.
Trauma Trust is currently working with medical providers to make bleeding control training available in all areas of the State. If you want to help teach, schedule a group training or find about already scheduled classes contact Trauma Trust Injury Prevention and Outreach, at 253-403-8667 or via email at julierabeau@traumatrust.org For more information on the Stop the Bleed® campaign go to bleedingcontrol.org
